An open-source GitHub Action that formats code automatically on every pull request – with more than 6,700 users worldwide.

The starting point
Formatting was manual work and therefore a recurring point of friction in reviews. Every deviation had to be fixed by hand instead of focusing on the content.

Our approach
We moved formatting into CI. A GitHub Action runs Prettier on every pull request and writes the result straight back to the branch.

What we built
Published as prettier_action – a reusable action that drops into any repository and runs there with no extra effort. Our open-source work also spans projects built with FastAPI, Django and GitHub Actions.

Outcome & lesson
More than 6,700 users worldwide use the action. The lesson: a small, reliable tool solves a recurring problem more durably than any guideline.
